For many years West Sumatra was a focus of Indonesian-German Cooperation initiated by the then Governor Harun Zain and Dr. Dequin. Initially the cooperation followed a sectoral approach and supported many agricultural projects in various parts of West Sumatra. Later the cooperation shifted to a regional planning approach, when the lagging-behind area of West-Pasaman was selected as a new project area.
The “Area Development Project West Pasaman (ADP) “ started to be implemented in 1980. It was part of the “Provincial Development Programme (PDP)” under the Directorate General for Regional Development at the Ministry of Home Affairs (Dirjen Bangda).
A brief summary is compiled in the attached flyer of Indonesian-German Cooperation. On the occation of the visit of His Excellency the President of Indonesia Mr. Suharto to officially inaugurate the West Pesaman projects in 1987, an report was published by ADP / PDP. This report is also attached to the section Documents.
